The General Counsel acts as the primary legal advisor to the Board of Regents, the President and CEO, and the Board staff in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the Board. The General Counsel also consults with campus counsel at the Regents institutions to ensure consistency in the interpretation and application of Board policies and procedures.

The General Counsel's responsibilities include assisting in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures, interpretation of applicable statutes, promulgation of administrative rules and regulations, representation before certain administrative and judicial bodies, monitoring labor relations activities, and reviewing land transaction documents and institutional revenue bond issues.
